Riverport Ambassadors of Jefferson, Texas introduce "persons in character" at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010 in downtown Jefferson. Members in period costumes recreate the Golden Era of Jefferson during the Civil War, bringing mid-1800's history to life.
Meet the band of merry characters under the trees in front of First National Bank at the corner of Polk and Lafayette. Look for Civil War heroes, scalawags, railroad tycoons, clerks, church ladies or steamboat captains.
Riverport Ambassadors was created by a group of volunteers interested in enhancing the "Riverport Experience" by having fun, dressing in period costume and interacting one-on -one with guests and visitors. Their mission is to promote tourism, support businesses and interpret the colorful history of Jefferson.
Jefferson is nestled in the heart of the Piney Woods of East Texas and seems frozen in a simpler time; a time of charm and elegance. More than 100 buildings and homes have historical markers. Many are bed and breakfst inns. Others are museums, craft and antique shops and restaurants.
Come see history brought to life!
